Checklist: household with children
Add these on top of your basic 72-hour home checklist. Amounts scale with the calculator (count babies/children separately).
All ages (kids at home)
- Extra water for drinking and hygiene (calculator defaults).
- No-cook snacks your child will actually eat — rotate with normal shopping.
- Comfort item (soft toy, book) for stress during outages or evacuations.
- Child-safe torch or headlamp; spare batteries out of reach of toddlers.
- Paper list of paediatrician, school/daycare contacts, and allergies.
- ID copies and medical info in a waterproof pouch.
Babies & toddlers
- Ready-to-feed formula if you rely on formula and may lose boiling water (UK Prepare).
- Nappies, wipes, rash cream — 72 hours minimum; more if you shelter at home longer.
- Spare clothes, muslins, burp cloths.
- See baby kit for power cuts for feeding and warmth detail.
School-age children
- Any daily prescription or inhaler with clear dosing on paper.
- Lightweight activities (cards, colouring) if power is out for hours.
- Sturdy shoes and weather layer if you must leave quickly.
